GREEN THUMBS TO TAKE OVER MC SQUARE

Veggie patches will be planted at MC Square this spring to encourage the community to grow fresh food at home.

The vegetable beds will be planted as part of the ‘Veggie Patch Kids’ spring school holiday program on Tuesday 23 September.

The program will also include scarecrow making, seed propagation and worm farming.

The garden beds will be painted and decorated by children on Monday 29 September, under the guidance of staff from the Manningham Art Gallery.

It is hoped the initiative will inspire the community to grow their own produce, while bringing attention to food security, waste education, sustainable living and healthy eating.

The gardens will remain in place until December 2014, with the harvest being donated to the Doncare Emergency Relief Pantry.
