Westfield construction update

17 Dec 2007

As the redevelopment of Westfield Doncaster approaches the 12-month mark, the restaurants on the roof level along Doncaster and Williamsons Rds have advanced to the point where the towering 'hammerhead' crane – a fixture since June – has been dismantled. This leaves five tower cranes active in the lead-up to Christmas.

Closing in of the glass drum façade will commence early in 2008. More sections of cinema wall panels have been erected on the Williamsons Rd frontage, while works on improving the entry at the Myer end of the centre are almost complete.

Only a handful of concrete pours remain to complete the new galleria mall structure east of the existing centre, parallel to the existing mall. Excellent progress is also being made on the steel roof structure to this area.

Easier rooftop parking is available for customers after the opening of a further section of the new eastern deck that is accessed from Doncaster Rd.
Also, the ramp at the Frederick St traffic lights adjacent to 651 Doncaster Rd, is open for pedestrian-only access to the centre rooftop entry.

Construction work will cease on 21 December for Christmas and resume on 14 January.
