Westfield redevelopment set to get underway

Date:
10 Jan 2007

Development on Doncaster Hill will step up a gear on Monday 15 January when the highly-anticipated redevelopment of Westfield Doncaster officially commences.

A number of stores will cease trading from this date, including Coles, Safeway and Kmart, while others will relocate within the centre.

Car park access will also be affected, with entry only to be available only from Williamsons Road until 2008 while the Doncaster Road and Goodson Street entries close to facilitate works.

The project is expected to be completed by late 2008, by which time the centre will have almost doubled in size and include:

  • Approximately 200 new retailers, including David Jones and Big W
  • A new cinema complex
  • New food court, restaurant and entertainment areas with city views
  • A fresh food precinct
  • Extra car parking with improved access.

The supermarkets are expected to be part of the first stage to reopen in 2008, followed by further openings during the second half of the year.

Centre Manager, Stephen Blanch, said that ‘Thousands of rewarding and interesting retail career opportunities will open up with the expansion of the centre and the arrival of major retailers such as David Jones.’
